COVID strikes LaLiga.

Some teams from Primera División restarted training after their Christmas break. Each player had to return a negative PCR test in order to return to training. As it turned out, some teams had quite a few positive cases.

Betis, who currently sit third in LaLiga, stated that they have 6 positive cases without mentioning any names. It is still unclear whether that’s players or staff. Same goes for Cadiz, but with one less case. There are 4 active cases at Celta.

Levante announced 5 cases- 3 players and 2 people from the coaching staff.  Mallorca have 3 players and 3 staff members down with COVID.

The situation at Espagnol and Rayo Vallecano is the worst. The “Periquitos” have seven infected- 5 of which are players. This year’s hit of the season, Rayo Vallecano, have got the whopping 17 cases. Their game against Atletico Madrid on January 2 is in jeopardy.

Barcelona recently announced that Jordi Alba, Dani Alves and Clement Lenglet have tested positive for COVID.

The players are feeling in good health and are self-isolated at home. The club has informed the corresponding authorities.

All of Real Madrid’s previously infected players have recovered. Later today a new series of tests will take place before they return to training.

Spanish football will resume from December 31, with the majority of games being played on January 2.
