Super Eagles star, Ademola Lookman made history in Serie A by becoming one of two Atalanta players to score both at home and away against Napoli in the same season.
The African Player of the Year played a crucial role in bringing Atalanta level against Napoli in a thrilling match that ended 2-2, showcasing his skills by taking on four opponents with some impressive footwork.
According to Opta Paolo, a statistical performance app for players in Italy’s Serie A, “For the first time in Serie A history, two Atalanta players scored at home and away against Napoli in a single season: Lookman (2 goals at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona and 1 at the Gewiss Stadium) and Retegui (1 goal in each match).”
Lookman initiated the play in midfield by shaking off Giovanni Di Lorenzo and then expertly manoeuvred past three defenders before placing his shot through a crowd of legs into the far bottom corner.
This marked the fourth goal of an exciting match at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo, following goals by Mateo Retegui, Matteo Politano, and Scott McTominay.
Earlier in the season, Lookman had also scored twice in a 3-0 victory away to Napoli in November.
