African exports delivered another productive weekend across Europe’s major leagues, albeit with varying outcomes

England

Alex Iwobi scored a goal and contributed an assist as Fulham stunned Liverpool 3-2 in Sunday’s Premier League game. The Cottagers bounced back from a goal down to silence the Reds in the five-goal thriller at Craven Cottage.

Liverpool took a 14th minute through Alexis Mac Allister but the hosts restored parity nine minutes later through Ryan Sessegnon, whose half-volley beat goalkeeper Caomhim Kelleher.

Marco Silva’s men took the lead after 32 minutes when Iwobi had his goalbound shot deflected into the net by Andy Robertson.

In the goal-laden first-half, the Nigerian turned provider for Rodrigo Muniz five minutes later.

Although the visitors pulled a goal back in the 72nd minute through Luis Diaz, that could not stop Arne Slot’s men from returning home with heads bowed low.

At Goodison Park, Senegal international Iliman Ndiaye ensured Everton shared points with Arsenal as the fixture ended 1-1.

The Gunners took the lead through Leandro Trossard in the 37th minute. Four minutes into the second half, Ndiaye restored parity for the home team with a coolly taken penalty after Jack Harrison had been fouled by Myles Lewis-Skelly.

Italy

Como ended their four-match winless streak with a convincing 3-1 win at Monza, with Assane Diao among the scorers.

Cesc Fabregas’ men got off to a false start at the U-Power Stadium, conceding first as early as the fifth minute as Dany Mota got the better of goalkeeper Jean Butez.

The deficit brought the best out of the visitors and their dominance paid off in the 16th minute as Jonathan Ikone restored parity.

Senegal international Diao, who was named as man-of-the-match, put Como ahead in the 39th minute before Mergim Vojvoda sealed the victory with his 51st minute effort.

While Fabregas and his team moved to 13th in the Serie A, Monza remain at the base of the league.

In another Italian elite division encounter, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru contributed an assist as Lazio stunned Atalanta 1-0 before their home fans.

The Nigeria international set up Danish striker Gustav Isaksen six minutes before the hour mark to dent the Goddess’ ambition of becoming Italian champions.

Although Atalanta had reigning African Player of the Year Ademola Lookman in their fold, they were unable to stop the visitors from picking up all points at stake.

Spain

Mouctar Diakhaby was on target for Valencia as they secured a 2-1 away win at title-chasing Real Madrid in LaLiga.

Things looked very bright for Los Blancos at the start of the fixture as they were awarded a penalty in the 13th minute, but Brazil international Vinicius Junior missed the ensuing kick and two minutes later the visitors took the lead through their Guinean captain Diakhaby, who was assisted by Andre Almeida.

The African thought he had completed a brace seven minutes later but his effort was chalked off for being an offside position.

Although Vini made amends for his penalty miss with a 50th-minute equaliser, it was Valencia who had the final say as Hugo Duro scored the last-gasp winner.

Lucien Agoume scored his first professional goal in Sevilla’s 2-1 home defeat to Atletico Madrid.

The Cameroonian, who had represented Inter Milan, Brest and Troyes in the past, opened the scoring for the Andalusian side in the seventh minute

Nevertheless, Diego Simeone’s men fought back to win away from home thanks to goals from Julian Alvarez and Pablo Barrios.

Germany

Serhou Guirassy continued his impressive form in the German top flight this season with a goal as Borussia Dortmund claimed a commanding 4-1 win at Freiburg.

Dortmund took their first step towards securing victory when they took a 34th-minute lead through Karim Adeyemi.

Englishman Carney Chukwuemeka added the second in the 51st minute before the Guinea international and Jamie Gittens completed the comprehensive result.

Although Maximilian Eggestein pulled one back for the hosts in the 88th minute, that proved to be a mere consolation.
