Amad Diallo was the hero of the night for Manchester United, scoring two goals to secure a 2-0 win over PAOK Salonika in the Europa League.
Ruud van Nistelrooy, in his third game as interim boss, handed Amad his first start in over a month – and the Ivorian international (22) repaid his faith with a vibrant performance that was capped by two decisive second-half strikes to ignite United’s hopes of progressing to the knockout stages.
Diallo’s first goal came in the 50th minute, a looping header from a pinpoint Bruno Fernandes cross that found the far corner of the net.
He doubled United’s lead in the 77th minute with a left-footed effort from the edge of the box, which nestled into the corner via a slight deflection
Amad: “I like to celebrate with the fans and give them joy. I’m happy to score again. I’m here to do my best for Man United”.
United had drawn their opening three Europa League encounters against Twente, Porto and Fenerbahce and it was vital that they got off the mark against a PAOK side who had the better of the first-half chances.
Andre Onana produced fine saves to deny both Mady Camara and Andrija Zivkovic.
