After suffering an awful 4:0 loss to Liverpool last weekend, Arsenal got back to winning as they defeated a helpless Newcastle, 2:0. The Gunners were the better team on the field in both halves. They dominated throughout the first 45 minutes, but couldn’t find their way to the target. Holding 78% ball possession paid off early in the second half.
In 56th minute, Bukayo Saka found himself in a good position in the penalty area which was enough for him to score for 1:0. 10 minutes later, Arsenal’s forward, Gabriel Martinelli, extended the lead to 2:0. In the final minutes of the game, Newcastle tried something more creative, but their attempts came up short.
Although having a negative goals difference, Arsenal are looking quite well at the moment. They are 5th in the current standings with 23 points, 6 points behind the leader, Chelsea, and 3 points away from the 2nd place. The team has grown from last year and the new additions definitely have a huge positive impact on their performance. Aaron Ramsdale, Nuno Tavares, Ben White, Martin Odegaard, and Joe Willock all play a significant role for the Gunners.
Newcastle, on the other hand, continue struggling in the bottom of the table with 6 points after 13 matches. They are 5 points away from the relegation zone and they will need to do something as soon as possible, if they want to feel in a safer place.
