The Carters have added yet another award to their collection. Blue Ivy Carter, the eldest daughter of Beyoncé and Jay-Z, took home her first MTV Video Music Award Sunday night at just nine years old—making her  the youngest Moonman winner since the award show began in 1984. Blue Ivy’s historic victory came as part of a Best Cinematography win, having lent vocals to her mother’s “Brown Skin Girl” with collaborators Wizkid and SAINt JHN. earances from Naomi Campbell, Lupita Nyong’o, and Kelly Rowland.
In its category, “Brown Skin Girl” beat out Billie Eilish’s “Therefore I Am,” Foo Fighters “Shame Shame,” Justin Bieber and Chance the Rapper’s “Holy,” Lady Gaga’s “911,” and Lorde “Solar Power.” It also previously earned Blue Ivy, who has a writing credit on the cut from The Lion King: The Gift, her first Billboard Hot 100 entry and Grammy Award earlier this year. “Brown Skin Girl” came up short in the Best R&B Video category, losing to “Leave the Door Open” by Silk Sonic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRFS0MYTC1I
