African Premier League Stars Get Their Moment as Fans Pick Player of the Month

Fans across the continent now decide which African star shines brightest in England, with Bryan Mbeumo the first name on the SuperSport honours list.

While Liverpool and Arsenal hog the weekend headlines, African football fans have a bigger say to make. The SuperSport African Premier League Player of the Month award hands supporters across the continent the power to crown the African star who lit up English football's biggest stage.

The initiative launched in September as a pan-African, fan-voted prize open across MultiChoice markets, Francophone clusters included. That means a supporter in Lagos, Yaoundé, Nairobi or Dakar gets the same chance to back their favourite and shape the conversation around African talent in the Premier League.

Cameroon's Bryan Mbeumo set the standard as the first winner. He announced himself early in the season, and his lobbed finish in a 5-2 win over Ipswich Town became one of the moments fans kept talking about. His direct attacking play, relentless running and knack for creating danger won over voters across the continent.

Mbeumo's triumph set the tone for an award built around recognition, pride and fan power. A second winner has since been crowned, and the race for the next honour is already taking shape. With so many African players making their mark in England, the competition for the continent's vote is only heating up.
