Ahmad Ahmad has resumed his role as the president of the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) following a latest ruling from the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS).
It can be recalled that the Malagsy was slapped with a five-year ban by world football governing body FIFA in November 2020 after he was found to have breached a number of codes of ethics.
Subsequently, Ahmad Ahmad appealed his ban at CAS seeking to have the ban overturned.
According to a ruling from CAS released on Friday, January 29, 2021, it has taken a decision to allow Ahmad to resume his role as CAF President until the upcoming elections are held.
"Due to a risk of irreparable harm for Mr Ahmad if the disciplinary sanction is maintained during the period prior to the Caf elections, the Cas panel has upheld the request to temporarily stay the effects of the [Fifa ban]," part of the ruling from CAS reads.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Ahmad is still ineligible to contest in the upcoming CAF elections. If he seeks to contest, he will have to obtain clearance from the FIFA committee that vetted aspirants.
