Rahim Akanta's first-half stoppage-time goal gave Real Tamale United a 1-0 derby win over Tamale City and second place in Zone One A.
Northern Ghana had its derby day at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, and Real Tamale United came out on top. The former Premier League side beat Tamale City FC 1-0 on Sunday to climb to second in Zone One A.
Rahim Akanta was the match-winner. He struck in first-half stoppage time, at the moment when Tamale City would have hoped to reach the interval level, and sent Real Tamale United into the break with the lead.
Tamale City came out after the restart with far more urgency and pushed hard for an equaliser. Real Tamale United stayed disciplined and resolute at the back and held on for their third win of the season. The result takes them to 10 points from five matches and keeps them firmly among the leading sides in the zone.
Sankara Nationals still sit top of the table. They won 1-0 away to Northern City FC at the same venue, with substitute Alhassan Adam scoring the 84th-minute winner after coming off the bench. Northern City had no time to respond, and the visitors took all three points.
