ALL TIME GOAL SCORING HOLDER, BENNI McCARTHY EXPRESSES INTEREST IN MANAGING SOUTH AFRICA

South Africa's all time goal scorer, Benni McCarthy has made known his intentions of managing the senior national team, Bafana Bafana.

McCarthy has told the BBC that although he would like to coach in Europe, having spent playing in Europe and being familiar with the football culture and mentality there, he would also opt to handle the senior National team of South Africa, when the opportunity comes.

"It would make more sense if my next move would be a European club whether it's in Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium, England or Spain, which I doubt because people of my color don't get to coach there.

"But I won't limit myself to Europe because if the right offer comes from anywhere in the world I would be happy to take it, McCarthy added."

Regarding a coaching career with the Bafana Bafana, the 42-year-old former striker of South Africa mentioned that, "If the Bafana offer came up one day I would definitely be interested."

"I think one day in the near future that would be my aim but for now I am more interested in working on a day-to-day basis, McCarthy told BBC.

He also explained that, the national job is the biggest job for any football coach, as the "country's fate lies in your hands, and you have the chance to guide the team to World Cups, to win the Africa Cup of Nations-it's huge," he emphasized.

McCarthy who was last in charge of Cape Town City before being axed from the position earlier this season, was among the candidates to replace Stuart Baxter when the Englishman parted ways with the South African Football Association (SAFA) in the wake of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

With 31 goals in 80 games for South Africa, Benni McCarthy is the player from his country to have won the UEFA Champions League, doing so with Porto in the 2003/2004 season.
