AMERICAN-NIGERIAN ATHLETE BECOMES FIRST FIVE STAR FOOTBALL RECRUIT FROM MASSACHUSETTS

On the 3rd of February, 2022, history was made in the State of Massachusetts, as the State produced its first ever Five Star Football recruit.

The name Samson Okunlola, is one that will forever be remembered in the history books of Sports in the State of Massachusetts, as he became the first Football athlete from the commonwealth State, to be Five star rated.

The American-Nigerian athlete, whose parents hail from Osun and Edo State in Nigeria, had a chat with Afroballers, about his Nigerian background and his journey to where he is today.

“Talents in the State of Massachusetts are slept on, as there are good players out here” said Samson in his chat with Afroballers, on the reason for the dearth in Five star recruits in the State of Massachusetts. Samson, who is currently the 3rd highest ranked offensive lineman in the country, is hoping that his rankings will help to bring more attention to talents in the State of Massachusetts.

It is quite interesting to note that at first he wanted to follow in his brother’s footsteps by becoming a defensive lineman but as he said “I fell in love with the technical aspect involved in playing the Offensive lineman position and started grinding to be the best in the position”.

As for positional role models, Samson said he loves the way professionals like Tyron Smith of the Dallas Cowboys, Trent Williams of the 49ers, Lane Johnson of the Eagles and many others, play the position.

Samson, who has offers from close to 40 schools, said he will look at things such as player development, sound education system, and coaching, when deciding the school to take his talents to.
