Ghana's James Ampofo struck the 67th-minute winner as Esbjerg turned a deficit into a 2-1 victory in the Danish Betinia Liga.
Ghanaian forward James Ampofo was the hero at Blue Water Arena on Saturday, scoring the match-winning goal as Esbjerg fB fought back to beat FC Fredericia 2-1 in the Danish Betinia Liga.
The hosts were in trouble early in the second half. Asbjørn Bøndergaard stepped up and converted a penalty in the 57th minute to put Fredericia in front, leaving Esbjerg with work to do in front of their own fans.
The response came quickly. Substitute Marcus Hansen came off the bench and levelled the match in the 64th minute, flipping the momentum. Three minutes later, Ampofo struck. He pounced on a mistake by Fredericia captain Frederik Rieper, won the ball back, and fired past goalkeeper Valdemar Birksø to put Esbjerg ahead.
The Ghanaian kept probing as the game wore on, and Esbjerg held firm to see out the result. It was also a landmark afternoon for the club: the first win under head coach Hjalte Bo Nørregaard, who took charge in September.
Ampofo's tally now stands at three goals and one assist in seven league appearances this season, a return that underlines his growing influence in Esbjerg's attack.
