Anthony Edwards drops 45 with nine threes as Minnesota crushes Miami 131-106 and spoils the Greek-Nigerian star's Heat debut.
The Greek-Nigerian king of the NBA made his Miami Heat debut on Wednesday night, and Minnesota was in no mood to throw a welcome party. Giannis Antetokounmpo put up 35 points in his first game in Heat colors, but the Timberwolves ran away with a 131-106 season-opening win.
The man who stole the show was Anthony Edwards. He erupted for 45 points and splashed nine three-pointers, shooting Miami out of the building and turning a marquee debut into his own personal stage.
The performance also put Edwards in rare company. He is now just the third player in NBA history with multiple 40-point games in season openers, joining Wilt Chamberlain and Michael Jordan. Few names carry more weight than those two.
For Giannis, the 35 points are proof the Heat have a monster on their hands, but the 25-point margin shows how much work is left. For Edwards and the Wolves, it's a loud statement on opening night, and the rest of the league is on notice.
