Kimi Antonelli claims the Formula One crown at just 20, rewriting the record books on a day when Max Verstappen took the Mexican Grand Prix win.
History was made in Mexico City. Antonelli secured the Formula One world championship at the age of 20, becoming the youngest driver ever to win the title. He breaks the mark Sebastian Vettel set when he won his first crown at 23.
Verstappen took the chequered flag in the 71-lap Mexican Grand Prix. On any other day that would be the headline, but this race will be remembered for the new champion rather than the winner.
There was early drama as well. On lap 4, Lewis Hamilton radioed in to ask what action was being taken over an incident on track, and he was told the matter was being looked into. It was a small flashpoint in a race that ended with a huge moment for the sport.
For Antonelli, it completes a rapid rise from promising prospect to world champion. A new generation now sits at the top of Formula One, and the paddock has a fresh face to build around.
