Kimi Antonelli crushed the field at the US Grand Prix and can seal his first world championship in Mexico City next weekend.
Kimi Antonelli is on the brink of Formula 1 glory. The Italian controlled the US Grand Prix from the front, and he now sits just two points from his first drivers' world championship.
Charles Leclerc brought his Ferrari home in second, with Max Verstappen's Red Bull third. Verstappen was not happy with how his afternoon played out, but he could not do anything about the gap to the winner.
The title picture also tilted firmly in Antonelli's favour. His championship rivals had a day to forget: Lewis Hamilton finished fourth and George Russell could only manage eighth. That leaves Antonelli needing a ninth-place finish or better at the Mexican Grand Prix next weekend to wrap up the crown.
Antonelli made it clear he knows the championship is within reach, and said he hopes to get the job done quickly. With the pressure rising and Mexico City next on the calendar, the young Italian is in a commanding position.
