Kimi Antonelli's commanding win in the United States leaves him on the verge of a first world championship, and Toto Wolff calls it his best race yet.
Kimi Antonelli is one step from Formula One's biggest prize. His commanding victory at the US Grand Prix has all but sealed his first world championship, with the title now likely to be settled in Mexico.
Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff did not hold back afterward, calling it the young Italian's best race to date. Wolff said the drive was exceptional and that Antonelli got more out of the car than the machinery alone should have allowed.
Wolff was also keen to spread the credit. He pointed to the many people behind the scenes who helped bring Antonelli to the cusp of a record-breaking championship, from engineers to strategists to the wider Mercedes operation.
The focus now shifts to Mexico, where Antonelli can finish the job. After a performance as complete as this one, the rest of the paddock will be chasing a driver who looks fully in command.
