Kimi Antonelli was reportedly a natural behind the wheel at three, and now he's a Formula 1 world champion at just 20 years old.
Formula 1 has a new king, and he's barely old enough to rent a car in some countries. Kimi Antonelli has gone from a childhood steeped in motorsport to the sport's biggest prize at 20, completing one of the fastest climbs the paddock has seen.
The story starts in the family workshop. His father Marco, a racing man himself, has said Kimi looked like a natural driver at the age of three. Growing up around engines, tools and karts, the youngster treated the garage like a second home, and the early seat time shaped the instincts that now define him.
From there the rise was relentless. Antonelli tore through karting and the junior single-seater ranks, catching the eye of Mercedes, who brought him into their young driver programme. The team fast-tracked him up the ladder with unusual speed, a bold bet on raw talent over a long apprenticeship.
The payoff arrived when he stepped into a Mercedes F1 seat, taking on the huge task of filling the space left by Lewis Hamilton's departure. The pressure was enormous, the spotlight was fierce, and he still delivered, turning promise into a title.
Now the teenager who seemed destined for the grid is the one every rival has to chase. If the journey so far is any guide, this is only the start of the Antonelli era.
