Glamorgan opener Asa Tribe is out of the Lions' Caribbean tour after St Kitts and Nevis imposed Ebola-related entry rules on travellers from Kenya.
Kenya's cricket scene has just had an unexpected knock-on effect on the England Lions. Glamorgan opener Asa Tribe, who played in Nairobi last month, has been barred from joining the squad's Caribbean tour because of Ebola-related entry restrictions.
The 22-year-old turned out for his native Jersey in three List A matches in Kenya. Jersey is an associate nation, and Tribe can represent it until he earns a first senior England cap. From Nairobi he was due to fly straight to St Kitts and Nevis to link up with the Lions.
The obstacle is a ban introduced by the St Kitts and Nevis government. It follows the recent Ebola outbreak in east Africa and restricts entry for people who have recently been in affected regions. Tribe's time in Kenya brought him under those rules, so he cannot travel with the squad.
It is a frustrating setback for a young batter who was looking to build on his progress at Glamorgan. His case also shows how health-related border policies can disrupt sporting schedules, particularly for players who move between associate-level duty and England's development pathway.
