Hearts of Oak's in-form center-back Kelvin Osei Asibey says he is fully ready to wear the Black Stars shirt for the 2027 AFCON qualifier against Somalia.
Ghana's league-leading defensive wall is knocking on the national team door. Accra Hearts of Oak center-back Kelvin Osei Asibey has made it clear he is ready to answer the Black Stars' call as Ghana prepare for their 2027 AFCON qualifier against Somalia.
The 25-year-old frames national service as a duty that comes with citizenship. "As long as I am a citizen of the Republic of Ghana, whenever the nation needs my services, I am ready," he said after Hearts of Oak's Friday night win over Basake Holy Stars.
His confidence has been earned. In the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League, Asibey has anchored a Phobians backline that conceded only two goals over an eight-game run, lifting the club to the top of the table. His reading of the game and command in the air have set him apart, and he collected three straight NASCO Man of the Match awards against Vision FC, Port City FC and Basake Holy Stars. That is a rare haul for a defender.
Manager Nebojsa Kapor has also publicly backed his centre-back, praising the quality he believes Asibey brings. With Ghana looking to start their qualifying campaign on a strong note, a defender in this form and with this attitude makes a compelling case for a look from the technical team.
