Boateng's deflected rocket put the Miners ahead, but Patrick Asiedu's stunning free-kick earned Asante Kotoko a 1-1 draw in Obuasi.
The Ashanti Derby delivered drama again in the Ghana Premier League, with FC AshantiGold and Asante Kotoko sharing the points in a 1-1 draw at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi on Sunday. The Matchweek 8 clash of the 2026/27 season had regional bragging rights on the line, and neither side could claim them.
The Miners came in with a strong home record and were chasing another win at Len Clay against their illustrious rivals. They got their breakthrough in the 41st minute, when Boateng let fly from distance. The shot took a slight deflection off Joseph Amoah, wrong-footed the Kotoko goalkeeper and settled in the net. AshantiGold went into the closing stretch of the first half with a 1-0 lead.
Kotoko came out after the break determined to fight back and gradually worked their way into the contest. In the 63rd minute, Patrick Asiedu stood over a free-kick and delivered a stunning strike that brought the Porcupine Warriors level.
The point leaves both sides with something to take from a derby that had plenty of intensity and quality. AshantiGold keep their home ground a tough place to visit, and Kotoko show the resilience to recover from a deficit on the road. In Ghana's most-watched local rivalry, the bragging rights stay undecided for now.
