Anthony Baffoe is out of the committee hunting Ghana's next head coach, and the GFA says the search rolls on with four members.
Ghana's hunt for a new Black Stars boss has hit a fresh bump. Former international Anthony Baffoe has withdrawn from the committee tasked with finding the next head coach, and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed it.
GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum said committee chairman Fred Pappoe informed the Executive Council (EXCO) of Baffoe's decision at a meeting last Thursday. No specific reason was given for the exit. Speaking on Max FM, Asante Twum said the panel has carried on with its work with the remaining four members since they were sworn in.
Baffoe had been named among five members of the group, which also features former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah, legal practitioner Agbesi Dzakpasu and high-performance specialist Faisal Chibsah, with Pappoe in the chair. Earlier reports had suggested that both Baffoe and Chibsah had turned down their places, but the GFA has only confirmed Baffoe's withdrawal.
The committee was set up by the GFA and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation after Carlos Queiroz's departure, which followed Ghana's disappointing start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign. With the Black Stars needing direction and results fast, the pressure is on the panel to deliver a credible appointment without any more off-field distractions.
