Eight foreign-based players, led by Barcelona B forward Aziz Issah, join Ghana's Black Meteors as they chase a return to the continental stage.
Ghana's Black Meteors are going global for their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying push. Barcelona B forward Aziz Issah leads a group of eight foreign-based players in head coach Desmond Ofei's final 23-man squad for the tie against Libya.
The Meteors open the two-legged contest in Benghazi on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, before the return fixture at home. Ghana want to get back to the continental competition, and getting past Libya is the first step toward the next qualifying round.
Issah's overseas teammates come from clubs across Europe and North America. They include defender David Oduro of French side Annecy, Oscar Frimpong of Real Madrid II and Aaron Essel of Sacramento Republic FC. Phyenyin-Denis Marfo of SC Internacional, Lord Afrifa of SC Austria Lustenau, Joseph Opoku of Swansea City and Dan Adu-Adjei of HNK Rijeka complete the group.
Ofei has also kept faith in the local league. Asante Kotoko duo Hubert Gyau and Emmanuel Sanja are in, along with Kelvin Nkrumah of Medeama SC, Alidu Labaran of Vision FC and Raymond Agyemang of Aduana FC. Ishmael Addo of Heart of Lions, Eric Wiafe of Swedru All Blacks, Owusu Ansah of Port City FC and Firdaus Mohammed are also named.
The mix of overseas experience and home-grown talent gives Ghana a balanced group for a high-stakes away leg in North Africa.
