Izzi Batt-Doyle ran 2:20:38 in Chicago to topple Jess Stenson's Australian marathon record and shave two minutes off her own best.
Izzi Batt-Doyle has claimed the Australian marathon crown in style. The 31-year-old ran 2:20:38 on Sunday to finish sixth at the Chicago Marathon and rewrite the national record book.
The mark erases the 2:21:24 that Jess Stenson set in 2025, a gap of 46 seconds. It also improves Batt-Doyle's own personal best by roughly two minutes, a huge leap at this level of the sport.
The record caps a remarkable run of form over the longer distances. Batt-Doyle, a two-time Olympian over 5000m, already held Australia's national records in the half-marathon and the 10,000m. With the marathon mark added, she now owns the country's top times across three of road and track running's biggest endurance events.
Sixth place in a deep Chicago field shows she can run with the world's best, not just break records at home. Australian distance running has a new standard-bearer, and she is only getting started.
