Ex-Liberty Professionals forward Bernard Arthur says second-placed Hearts of Oak have talent that Ghana's national teams are overlooking.
Ghana's national team selection is back in the spotlight, and this time Hearts of Oak are at the center of the conversation. Former Liberty Professionals attacker Bernard Arthur believes the Phobians have players good enough to wear national colors and wants to see far more of them called up.
Hearts have made a strong start to the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season, collecting 17 points from eight matches to sit second in the table. For Arthur, that kind of form should be rewarded beyond the club level, and not only with the senior Black Stars. He wants the call-ups to flow through the other national age-group and developmental teams too.
The 29-year-old voiced his concern in a radio interview, noting that one of the biggest clubs on the continent has almost no representation in Ghana's various squads. Goalkeeper Benjamin Asare is the lone exception, according to Arthur, who says he has followed both Hearts and the wider league closely and has seen plenty of talent in the Accra giants' ranks.
His comments add fuel to a familiar debate in Ghanaian football: should in-form domestic players get more priority when coaches pick national squads? With Hearts pushing near the top of the league, the pressure on selectors to take a closer look at the Phobians may only grow.
