Ghana's Black Queens dismantled Mauritius 10-0 on aggregate and now wait to learn whether Uganda or Zambia stands between them and the 2028 Olympics.
Ghana's Black Queens are marching toward Los Angeles 2028. They thrashed Mauritius 7-0 at the Essipong Stadium on Tuesday, a result that gave them a 10-0 aggregate win and a place in the third round of Olympic qualifying.
The tie was effectively settled before kickoff, since Ghana arrived with a 3-0 first-leg lead from Mauritius. Even so, coach Kim Lars Bjokogeren refused to rotate heavily and sent out a strong starting eleven. His players answered by pinning the visitors deep in their own half, and Mauritius spent most of the opening 45 minutes defending in numbers.
The pressure told before the break. Evelyn Badu, Portia Boakye and Ajegipina Zakaria all scored, and Ghana went into halftime 3-0 up and in complete control.
The second half followed the same pattern, though Ghana were frustrated by a run of wasted chances. Substitute Benedicte Simon finally broke the stalemate in the 73rd minute, and Jennifer Cudjoe converted from the penalty spot in the 86th. Nancy Amoh and Mukarama Abdulai then added late goals to complete the 7-0 rout.
The Black Queens now wait for their next opponent, who will be either Uganda or Zambia. That tie is scheduled for February next year, and either side will be a much tougher test than Mauritius. With this kind of firepower, Ghana will arrive with confidence.
