Ghana hold a 3-0 cushion over Mauritius, but coach Kim Lars Björkegren wants his Black Queens to stop wasting chances and close out the tie.
Ghana's Black Queens are one result away from the third round of qualifying for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, and their Swedish coach is not letting anyone relax. Kim Lars Björkegren has told his squad to turn dominance into ruthlessness when they host Mauritius on Tuesday.
Ghana travelled to the Cote d'Or National Sports Complex last Thursday and won the first leg 3-0, leaving them firmly in control of the second-round tie. A win or a draw at the Essipong Stadium in Sekondi-Takoradi will be enough to send them through.
Björkegren is wary of complacency. He wants a fast, disciplined start, with the team serious and professional from the first whistle and intent on killing the contest early rather than letting it drift.
The coach was pleased with the result but frustrated by how many chances his side failed to convert in the first leg. He admits bad luck can play a part in missed opportunities, but says that when it keeps happening game after game, the problem is efficiency in the final third and it has to be fixed.
For a Ghana side with serious Olympic ambitions, Tuesday is a chance to show they can finish as well as they create. Do that in front of their home fans, and the road to Los Angeles gets a lot clearer.
