Black Sharks Draw Senegal in Beach Soccer AFCON Group A Opener

Ghana's Black Sharks open against hosts and seven-time champions Senegal in a brutal Group A at the 2026 Beach Soccer AFCON.

Ghana's Black Sharks know their task at the 2026 CAF Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations: start against the best on their own sand. The draw at CAF headquarters in Cairo placed Ghana in Group A with hosts and defending champions Senegal, plus Mozambique and Uganda.

Senegal are first up, and it doesn't get much tougher than that. The Teranga Lions have won the title seven times, more than any other nation in the competition's history. They will have home support behind them as they defend the crown.

Ghana arrive with momentum after a tense qualifying tie against rivals Nigeria. The first leg finished 3-3 in Nigeria, and the Black Sharks then won 7-4 in Keta to take the tie 10-7 on aggregate. That is the kind of nerve they will need against Senegal.

Mozambique come next, and they are no pushovers. They have built a reputation as one of the fastest-rising beach soccer nations on the continent, so Ghana can't treat that match as a breather. Uganda close out the group stage, and by then the standings could be tight.

With the tournament on Senegalese sand, Ghana will need a fast start, sharp finishing and a cool head. A result in the opener would send a message to the rest of Africa's beach soccer elite.
