Ghana's caretaker coaches are about to unveil their squad as the Black Stars chase a qualifying revival after two painful AFCON 2027 defeats.
Ghana's Black Stars are looking for redemption, and the first step comes this week as the interim technical team prepares to name its squad for the AFCON 2027 qualifiers against Somalia. After a rocky start to the campaign, the pressure on the four-time continental champions is huge.
The Somalia double-header, on Matchdays Three and Four, is a chance to reset. Ghana opened with a 2-0 loss to Ivory Coast in Bouaké, then were stunned 4-2 by The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium. Two games, zero points, and a lot of frustration among supporters.
The results led to the resignation of head coach Carlos Queiroz. The Ghana Football Association and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation have since started the hunt for a permanent successor, with a five-member committee chaired by former GFA vice-president Fred Pappoe overseeing the process.
While that search continues, the committee has opted for an interim setup. Kim Lars Björkegren takes charge, with Ibrahim Tanko and Godwin Attram as assistants. Former Black Stars goalkeeper Fatawu Dauda joins as goalkeepers' trainer.
All eyes now turn to the squad announcement. Who gets the call will say a lot about how the caretaker staff plans to steady the ship and put Ghana back on course for AFCON 2027.
