Christian Agyenim Boateng's early strike sends FC Samartex 1996 level with leaders Medeama and deepens Bibiani Gold Stars' Samreboi misery.
FC Samartex 1996 are surging up the Ghana Premier League table after grinding out a 1-0 Western derby win over Bibiani Gold Stars on Sunday. The result lifts the Timber Giants to second place and keeps their title push firmly alive.
Christian Agyenim Boateng was the man of the moment, striking in the 25th minute to settle a tense contest at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena. Nana Kweku Agyemang's men came out with real intent, took control early and were rewarded when Boateng broke the deadlock midway through the first half.
Gold Stars came out after the break with far more urgency and pressed hard for an equaliser. Samartex dug in, defended their slim lead with discipline and held on for the three points, their third straight win at home.
For the Miners, the trip to Samreboi once again ended in disappointment, as they are still winless in their last three visits. Petros Koukouras' side had a chance to build on their 2-1 win over Heart of Lions last weekend, but their inconsistency continues.
Samartex now sit on 18 points, level with league leaders Medeama SC, and will look to keep the heat on when they travel to face Bechem United. Gold Stars must regroup quickly ahead of a tough home date with Aduana FC at Dun's Park.
