Ghana's Emmanuel Boateng adds another medal abroad as Hapoel Tel Aviv edge city rivals Maccabi 3-2, even though injury kept him out of the decider.
Ghana's Emmanuel Boateng has another piece of silverware to his name after Hapoel Tel Aviv beat city rivals Maccabi Tel Aviv 3-2 to win the Israeli League Cup, better known as the Toto Cup. The former Black Stars forward was injured and could not play in the final, but he was part of the squad that celebrated the triumph.
It was a frustrating night for the 29-year-old, who had to watch the decisive clash from the sidelines. Still, his work earlier in the campaign helped Hapoel get to the showpiece, and he has every right to share in the party.
Boateng has settled well in Israel. He has scored five goals and set up two more in 14 appearances across all competitions, bringing pace, experience and a cutting edge to Hapoel's attack. His know-how in the final third has been a valuable asset for the club this season.
The trophy adds to a well-travelled career that has taken the Ghanaian through Levante in Spain, Dalian Professional in China and Rio Ave in Portugal, along with international duty for Ghana. Now he is adding Israeli cup success to that résumé, proof that African talent keeps making its mark across the globe, even from the treatment room.
