Mexican boxer Saul ‘Canelo’ has dragged his promoter Oscar de la Hoya and streaming service DAZN to court over an alleged breach of contract.
The four-weight world champion is suing for at least $280 million at the US district court in California state.
The BBC reports that Alvarez signed a $365m (£282m) deal for 11 fights on DAZN two years ago.
However, he is now suing the aforementioned parties for a "breach of the single largest contract in the history of boxing"
His 11 complaints include fraud, breach of contract and negligent interference and he wants a jury trial.
The 30-year-old is accusing DAZN and De la Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions organisation of "broken the promises they made to each other, Alvarez, and boxing fans (sic)".
https://twitter.com/elimparcialcom/status/1303813269329555457Court documents state that DAZN was supposed to pay Golden Boy Promotions $40m for each of his bouts, $35m of which would go to the boxer.
Alvarez said, after three fights, DAZN wrote to his team saying the $40m fee would not be paid to Golden Boy Promotions for his next contest.
He is, therefore, suing both parties for a breach in contract and is demanding "at least $280m" in damages.
Meanwhile, the case filings claim that Alvarez did not fight Gennady Golovkin in 2019 and that that was one of the reasons why DAZN has decided not to pay him for his next bout.
