The Dallas Wings backcourt duo say they broke up over a year ago and that their past had nothing to do with Fudd going No. 1 in the WNBA draft.
Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd have addressed the rumors head-on. The Dallas Wings teammates confirmed they ended their romantic relationship more than a year ago, and they pushed back on claims that it shaped the franchise's decision to take Fudd with the No. 1 pick in this year's WNBA draft.
The former UConn teammates shared the news on the latest episode of Fudd's podcast, which dropped Friday. Both stressed that the breakup is old news and that they remain on good terms. In their words, they're still cool.
Bueckers was especially firm on the draft talk. She rejected the idea that their personal history played any part in Dallas selecting Fudd, a theory that has followed the pair since the Wings made her the top overall pick and reunited her with Bueckers in the backcourt.
The two also made a direct appeal to fans. They asked supporters to stop sending hostile messages, noting that the abuse has reached friends and family members who have nothing to do with the speculation.
On the court, the focus now turns to making the Bueckers-Fudd pairing work for Dallas. Both say the split is behind them, and they want the conversation to move on to basketball.
