Share

Ex-Cameroon captain Rigobert Song says playing in four World Cup tournaments was the highlight of his football career.

Song enjoyed a glittering career which saw him play for the likes of Liverpool, West Ham United and Galatasaray.

He was also not short on silverware, having ended his career as a two-time Africa Cup of Nations winner.

At club level, the Cameroon legend also won the Coupe de la Ligue, Turkish Süper Lig and two Turkish Cup titles.

However, discussing the proudest achievement of his decade-and-half career, Song picked playing in four World Cup tournaments.

The 44-year-old represented his country at the 1994, 1998, 2002 and 2010 editions of the global competition.

“I’m beyond proud of the fact that I took part in four World Cups,” Song told FIFA.com.

“I know many reputable players who would give everything to play just one. For me, the World Cup is the biggest competition in football. I’m proud to have represented my country at these four World Cups.

“It’s thanks to the World Cup that I was able to play professionally in Europe and ultimately have the career for which I am known.”

Song made his Cameroon debut in 1993 as a 17-year-old and went on to earn 137 caps for his country.
