Celtic defender Boli Bolingoli breaks quarantine rule with secret visit to Spain

Share

The Scottish Government is considering a suspension of football after Celtic defender Boli Bolingoli's secret trip to Spain threw the season into disarray.

Bolingoli should have quarantined for 14 days upon his return from Spain last week

However, he did not inform Celtic of his trip and then failed to isolate upon his return, playing in their 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock at Rugby Park last Sunday.

A spokesperson has since confirmed the Scottish Government are considering pausing the season after being made aware of the Bolingoli incident.

“The Scottish Government is aware of reports of a Celtic FC player having broken quarantine rules last week,” the spokesperson told the Scottish Sun.

“We are currently in discussion with the club and football governing bodies to establish the facts.

“If confirmed as another serious incident within Scottish football, where protocols have been breached at the risk of wider public health, then the Scottish Government will have little choice but to consider whether a pause is now needed in the resumption of the game in Scotland.”

Celtic have condemned what they admitted was inexplicable and "stupid" behaviour.

Celtic's weekend clash with Aberdeen along with the two clubs' midweek fixtures have been postponed.
