Winnipeg grants the three-time Vezina winner's trade request, sending Hellebuyck to New Jersey for four players and two draft picks.
The New Jersey Devils have landed one of the NHL's most decorated goaltenders. Connor Hellebuyck is headed east after the Winnipeg Jets granted his trade request on Friday, ending an 11-year run with the franchise.
The Devils paid a hefty price for the three-time Vezina Trophy winner. Winnipeg receives center Dawson Mercer, goaltender Nico Daws, prospect Alexander Command and forward Nick Bjugstad, plus a 2029 second-round pick and a 2027 seventh-round pick.
For New Jersey, the move is a clear statement of intent. Hellebuyck arrives as an Olympic gold medalist and will now share a locker room with his US teammate Jack Hughes, giving the Devils a star tandem with international pedigree.
For Winnipeg, it is the end of an era. Hellebuyck was the backbone of the franchise for more than a decade, and the Jets now turn to a retooled roster built around the players and picks they got back. The Devils, meanwhile, hope that elite goaltending is the piece that pushes them up the standings.
