Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has revealed his joy after he received the 2020 Uefa President’s award.

The honour was presented to legendary striker Drogba by UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin in Geneva ahead of the Champions League group stage draw on Thursday.

The Ivorian striker was instrumental and successful during his time at Stamford Bridge, winning a number of titles, including the Champions League.

“I’m so proud to have been given this recognition, being among prestigious names like Eusebio, Di Stefano, Sir Bobby Charlton, David Beckham, Beckenbauer, Raymond Copa, Eric Cantona, Yoan Cruyff, Francesco Totti,” Drogba posted on Instagram.

“I want to thank Uefa President Ceferin for honouring me, the teams I’ve played for and against, my teammates and all the people who have sent me so many nice messages of congratulations.

“More than my achievements in football, I’m more proud of the man I’ve become through 20 years of football education.”

It was also a landmark moment in Geneva as Drogba became the first African to receive the UEFA President’s Award, which recognises inspirational figures who have had a huge impact on the sport on and off the pitch, and the significance was not lost on the Ivorian.
