A double drone strike on a crowded al-Dibab transport hub left 80 dead, one of the deadliest single attacks of Sudan's war.
Sudan's war has claimed another devastating toll, and the shock is being felt across the continent, including in the sporting communities that make up so much of African life. A drone strike near a market in al-Dibab, in West Kordofan state, killed 80 people on Sunday evening, making it one of the deadliest single attacks of the conflict.
The target was a transport hub where people were gathering to catch rides home at the end of the day. Most of the victims were ordinary commuters. According to a witness, the drone struck the site twice.
That witness, Ahmed Wadi, described the aftermath in painful terms. He said he helped bury 50 of the dead, among them his own brother, Mohamed. His account shows how many families in one town now share the same loss.
As Sudan's crisis deepens, the human cost keeps growing, and so does the pressure on neighbors and regional bodies to push for civilian protection and safe humanitarian access. Afroballers stands with the families in al-Dibab and with everyone across Sudan living through this war.
