Ghanaian football rallies behind Elmina Sharks goalkeeper William John Donkoh after a motor accident led to the amputation of his left leg.
Ghanaian football is standing together with Elmina Sharks goalkeeper William John Donkoh, whose left leg was amputated after a motor accident in Cape Coast on Tuesday, October 20.
The club confirmed the news in a statement on Thursday, October 22, saying Donkoh went into surgery on Wednesday night. Despite the best efforts of the medical team, the leg could not be saved. The Sharks stressed that he remains a valued part of their family.
Management, the board, players and supporters have all been left heartbroken. The club has promised to stand by Donkoh and his family through his recovery and beyond, a message of loyalty that will mean everything in the weeks and months ahead.
Elmina Sharks have also asked the wider football community to keep the goalkeeper and his loved ones in their thoughts and prayers during this painful period. Further updates will be shared when appropriate.
For now, the club is asking the public to respect Donkoh's privacy as he begins the long road to recovery. Afroballers sends strength to the player, his family and everyone at the Sharks.
