Police have charged Australia's 2022 national 100m champion with indecent treatment of a child under 16, and the sport has banned him.
Australia's 2022 men's 100m national champion, Jake Doran, has been arrested and charged by Queensland police in Townsville. The 26-year-old faces one count of indecent treatment of a child under 16, which police have described as involving an indecent film.
Doran was arrested on 13 October. Police say their investigation covers a period from January 2025 to September 2026. He was granted bail and is due to appear at Townsville Magistrates Court on 5 November.
The sport's national governing body has moved swiftly, banning the sprinter from any involvement in athletics while the legal process plays out. The ban covers all participation in the sport, not just competition.
The charge is an allegation, and nothing has been proven in court. Doran is entitled to the presumption of innocence as the case proceeds, and further details are expected to emerge when he appears before the magistrate.
