Medeama captain Felix Kyei insists he's not coasting, even as teenager Yakubu Saeed holds the number one jersey in the Ghana Premier League.
Ghana Premier League captain Felix Kyei is fighting back. The Medeama SC shot-stopper has rejected suggestions that complacency is behind his fall down the pecking order at the Mauve and Yellow camp this season.
Kyei has watched the last four league games from the bench after a shaky opening to the 2026/27 campaign. Three goals conceded in the first two matches opened the door for teenage keeper Yakubu Saeed, who has been the coach's preferred choice ever since. Critics have been quick to pin the blame on Kyei, claiming he has been conceding too many and has let his standards slip.
The captain isn't buying it. Speaking to Medi TV ahead of the Week 7 clash with FC Samartex, he insisted his season has been solid overall. He admitted that some goals are out of a keeper's hands, while others come from errors that need to be fixed on the training ground. Either way, he made it clear that the complacency label doesn't fit him.
Actions are backing up the words. Kyei has put in serious work in training this week as he pushes to win back his starting spot. Medeama host Samartex at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena, kicking off at 3 pm, and whether Kyei or the young Saeed gets the nod will be one of the talking points to watch.
