FIFA announces opening of summer transfer window before season concludes

Share

Football teams across the world will have the chance to make signings in the transfer window before the current season ends.

This follows an announcement by FIFA that the summer transfer window will be opened before the current campaign finishes.

The world governing body said the new regulations are part of measures in response to the delays to leagues as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

FIFA said "associations following a dual-year calendar are permitted to commence the 'first registration period' for the 2020-21 season prior to the completion of the 2019-20 season, subject to conditions".

Meanwhile, players would also be allowed to play for up to three clubs - rather than the usual two - during the same season.

The Premier League is scheduled to return on June 17, with Aston Villa and Sheffield United set to face on the day.

Premier League chief executive Richard Masters had earlier stated that England's top flight will not allow clubs to sign players before 25 July, when the league is expected to be completed.

While the Premier League is set to return, no definite decisions have been made regarding the FA Cup, Europa League and Champions League.
