Fleetwood Handed Everton or Newcastle Test in EFL Cup Last Eight

League Two Fleetwood Town now know a Premier League heavyweight awaits at Highbury in the EFL Cup quarter-finals.

League Two side Fleetwood Town have landed a dream quarter-final in the EFL Cup, with either Everton or Newcastle United heading to Highbury for a place in the last four.

The visitors will be decided by the tie between the two top-flight clubs. Whichever side comes through will make the trip to Fleetwood's compact home ground, a very different setting from the big Premier League stadiums.

For Fleetwood, the draw is a rare chance to test themselves against elite opposition in front of their own fans. A home quarter-final against a top-flight club is the kind of fixture that can define a season for a lower-league outfit, and the pressure will sit firmly on the Premier League side.

The EFL Cup has a long record of delivering upsets, and Fleetwood will back themselves to make life uncomfortable. Everton or Newcastle will arrive knowing a semi-final spot is within reach, but also that a trip to a smaller ground can quickly turn awkward.
