Floyd Mayweather livid after being placed behind Sugar Ray Leonard in Welterweight rankings

Share

Former professional boxer Floyd Mayweather has expressed his unhappiness after being denied top spot in an all-time welterweight rankings list.

Mayweather had a very distinguished boxing career, winning titles in many different weight divisions.

The 43-year-old held the WBC super featherweight, WBC super lightweight and WBA (Super) welterweight belts, among others.

He was also undefeated throughout his career, recording 50 wins out of 50 fights, with no draws or losses.

The ‘Money man’ has often claimed to be the greatest boxer of all-time and once rated himself to be greater than Muhammad Ali.

Mayweather said a friend sent him the welterweight rankings, which placed fellow boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard ahead of him.

Not only did he slam the ranking list, he also suggested that he was far better than Leonard.

"They had Sugar Ray Leonard No 1. Like I said before, he was the guy that paved the way for myself. But how can you have a guy ranked No 1 when his first loss was to a lightweight, Roberto Duran?” he told FightHype.

"And then they also talked about me facing [Juan Manuel] Marquez, which was at catchweight of 144lbs.

"But this same guy, Marquez, knocked out their No 3 ranked welterweight -- because they had Pacquiao No 3.”

Mayweather also took a swipe at the “so-called boxing experts” who usually rank legendary boxers.

"It's crazy how all these ratings go nowadays. Of course, fighters are gonna always say, 'I would've done this, I should be ranked here.'

"But a lot of these so-called boxing experts, it's just crazy how these guys are experts.

"If you're an expert, you've gotta really do your homework before you speak on certain things about boxing,” he added.
