Floyd Mayweather sends warning to Conor McGregor over retirement

Share

Floyd Mayweather says he is ready to 'punish' Conor McGregor if the UFC decides to try his hands at boxing again.

McGregor announced his retirement from the UFC on Sunday, thanking his fans for their support in an emotional message on social media – though he has made similar claims in both 2016 and 2019.

Shortly thereafter, he took to Instagram to share the picture of a cake, which read, “Happy Retirement Daddy.”

And 43-year-old Mayweather reacted with a subtle jab at McGregor, saying

“If I’m not mistaken, didn’t you tell Mike Tyson you could beat me if we fought a second time? Now you’re quitting! I thought you wanted to beat the best? Well, if you decide to come back, I will be waiting to punish you again,” Mayweather wrote commenting to the MMA star’s cake photo which displayed words saying, “Happy Retirement Day.”

McGregor dropped the bomb on Sunday morning as he wrote: “Hey guys I’ve decided to retire from fighting. Thank you all for the amazing memories! What a ride it’s been! Here is a picture of myself and my mother in Las Vegas post one of my World title wins! Pick the home of your dreams Mags I love you! Whatever you desire it’s yours.”

The Irishman only returned to UFC six months ago after a long absence, beating Cowboy Cerrone, but has been unhappy with his long wait for another bout and the potential opponents he has been linked with facing.
