Former NBA stars Tracy McGrady and Jermaine O’Neal to form sports agency

Share

Tracy McGrady and Jermaine O’Neal are reportedly planning to establish their own sport agency.

The two former NBA stars are teaming up to kickstart a player representation agency.

Speaking to the New York Times, McGrady said the agency will be called Seven1 Sports Group and Entertainment.

“We think it’s needed, and we have a passion for it,” McGrady stated. “We’re around kids every single day because we have youth programs. It just makes sense.

“We see the lack of information that these kids are getting, so we would be doing a disservice to our people if we don’t lend our expertise of what we know and help guide them. This is a calling that we have.”

McGrady and O’Neal became household names in the NBA after being drafted out of high school as top prospects.

In 1996, O’Neal was drafted by the Portland Trail Blazers, while a year later, McGrady was picked by the Toronto Raptors.

The two have been very close since breaking out and are regarded by many fans as “brothers”.

“There’s no magic wand for this. We’re not trying to say we’re the magic wand,” O’Neal said of their plans to form a sports agency.

“But we’re going to be different. You can’t name another pair of people who have had the level of success and the ups and downs that we’ve had in our careers.”
