Four Universities in Ghana are set to display skills, dexterity, and all the glitz and glamour on the court as the battle in Zone Two of the 2020 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) this weekend.
Two tertiary institutions, Takoradi Technical University (TTU), University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) from the Western Region of Ghana, will join two Central Regional institutions, University of Education, Winneba (UEW) and host, University of Cape Coast (UCC) on Saturday, March 14, 2020 to battle for the top spot in their zone.

For UMAT, this year's zonal championship will serve as another platform to redeem themselves as they have not been able to win any game in the UPAC championship to qualify for the National games.
The UMaT basketball team recorded their biggest defeat in the UPAC championship with a 19-69 to loss to Takoradi Technical University in the opening game of the 2018 edition of the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges tournament.
Takoradi Technical University lost 32-37 to defending champions and four times cup holders, University of Ghana in the 2019 edition of the UPAC basketball championship, and this will serve as another opportunity to have a clinch of the ultimate trophy.
Bronze winners of the 2018 UPAC basketball championship, UEW will also have another chance to better their performance in this year's championship. UEW won the third place position in 2018 against TTU with a score of 46-35 at the University of Ghana basketball court in Accra.
Having pulled out of the 2018 edition, reportedly due to administrative issues and were kicked out of the 2019 edition by TTU, losing the only quarter finals spot with a slim 14-16 defeat, the UCC team will be coming into this game with all seriousness to also aim at clinching the top spot.
The Men's team of UCC won Silver Medal while their Women counterpart chalked same fete in Basketball games to help their University to come tops in the 2020 Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Games.
UCC placed second in basketball in both divisions after recording a 63-66 loss to UG in the Men’s Division and a 30-56 loss to UG in the Women’s Division.
The 2020 UPAC championship is being participated by 32 tertiary institutions which were drawn into eight Zone, including new entrants, the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ), the foremost communications university in Sub Saharan Africa.
