Gabon’s Aubameyang diagnosed with ‘cardiac lesions’ after testing positive with COVID at AFCON

Despite recently recovering from a positive test for COVID-19, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was soon diagnosed with heart lesions and will be unavailable to play for Gabon.

Aubameyang was seen by Arsenal doctors who have told the public and Gabon's doctors that the situation is manageable and that the striker is feeling well.

Aubameyang and two other teammates, Axel Meyé and Mario Lemina were both diagnosed with the same issue.

According to the Gabon Football Federation: 'According to CAF's medical commission, players Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, Axel Meyé and Mario Lemina who have just recovered from Covid are unable to participate in this game. The examinations would show cardiac lesions. CAF did not want to take any risks.'

Nonetheless, Aubbameyang won't be featured to join Gabon's team for their AFCON match against Ghana for the sake of taking preventive medical measures.

The 32-year-old Gabon captain is yet to make his presence and impact after missing out on two games, including the opening match.

Gabon is set to finish its campaign against Morrocco on January 18 (Tuesday). The timeline of return for Aubameyang remains uncertain and is set for further evaluation.
