Gareth Bale rejoins Tottenham on one-year loan deal

Share

Wales international Gareth Bale has sealed a sensation return to Tottenham Hotspur on loan from Real Madrid.

The 31-year-old left the English side in the summer of 2013, having led them into the Champions League.

Bale’s stint with Madrid was controversial, although he won many trophies with Los Blancos, including four Champions League titles.

Having returned to Spurs on a one-year loan deal, the winger said he is raring to help the club win some trophies.

"It's nice to be back. It's such a special club to me. It's where I made my name," Bale said.

"Hopefully, now I can get some match fitness, get underway and really help the team and, hopefully, win trophies."

Bale added that he was looking forward to playing under Mourinho, insisting the Portuguese manager played a huge role in his return.

"He's spoken to me about a few positions that he would like me to play and obviously I'm happy with that," he told BT Sport.

"He was a big reason for me coming back here, he's a household name and a winner. He's the perfect fit for Tottenham. We need to win trophies and he knows how to do that better than anyone."
