Ghana's FA says continuity, local-league know-how and in-house expertise won Kim Lars Björkegren the interim Black Stars job for the November window.
Ghana's FA has stepped forward to defend one of the most eyebrow-raising appointments in the Black Stars' recent history. Communications Director Henry Asante Twum says Kim Lars Björkegren was chosen to lead the interim technical team for the November 2026 international window through a clear, structured process.
The Swedish tactician currently runs the Black Queens, and that double duty has fans and pundits asking questions. Asante Twum insists the logic holds up. The first test was institutional memory and continuity. The second was a look at coaches working in the Ghana Premier League. The third was a review of the whole national team structure to find a coach with the competence and quality to step up. Speaking on TV3, he said the process settled on Kim.
The timing adds pressure. Ghana's 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign has started badly, and the setback ended Carlos Queiroz's time as head coach. The Black Stars lost 2-0 away to Côte d'Ivoire, then went down 4-2 to The Gambia in their first two Group C matches. That leaves qualification hopes under real strain so early in the race.
Björkegren now inherits a squad that needs answers fast. With the group table tightening and the Ghanaian public demanding a response, the interim team's first outing will be watched closely, both for the result and for what it says about the GFA's direction.
