Ghana's Division One sides get a financial lifeline as the GFA releases the first tranche of a GHS120,000 package on November 2.
Ghana's football authorities are putting real money behind the grassroots of the domestic game. The Ghana Football Association will release the first tranche of its annual GHS120,000 support package to all 48 clubs in the UMB Division One League on Monday, November 2.
The cash comes through the GFA's sponsorship partnership with Universal Merchant Bank and is designed to ease the financial strain that so often weighs on second-tier outfits. Clubs are expected to use the funds for essential expenses, steadier finances and smoother day-to-day operations across the season.
In a statement issued on Friday, the GFA said it believes the support will strengthen clubs' ability to meet their obligations and handle the demands of life in the Division One League. For many sides, that kind of backing can be the difference between surviving and thriving.
The association is also keeping up its practical support off the balance sheet. The GFA confirmed it will continue to cover the costs of referees, match commissioners, venue media officers and cameramen for Division One fixtures, taking a further load off clubs as the campaign gathers pace.
